Our Goals
Academics
We provide a superior academic climate through small classes, a rigorous curriculum and support where necessary to best prepare students to fulfil God’s will for their lives.
Evidence-based teaching methods delivered by a skilled, passionate and compassionate expert teaching team ensure Lighthouse students are provided with high quality and effect learning experiences in every classroom, every day. Lighthouse staff are whole-heartedly committed to the mantra of providing Excellence in Christian Education for every child entrusted to our care.
Student learning I monitored regularly against clear benchmark levels of achievement. Small class sizes ensure individualised attention and learner progress. Students are acknowledged for excellence in both outcomes and effort.
Lighthouse Christian School is committed to embedding best practice in every phase of learning and understands every student matters and that each stage of schooling is equally important.
Spiritual Growth
The purpose of Christian school education is the educational and spiritual development of each individual child. Spiritual formation is an essential component of a Christian school education.
Lighthouse students learn to find their purpose in following Jesus’ example, using their gifts to serve others. Students are taught this example through weekly Bible classes and Chapel services and are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with God through Bible study, prayer and praise and worship.
We believe that Christian education is tool used by God to help our students to understand and fulfil God’s purpose for their lives. Students are trained to not only appreciate biblical principles and Christian values, but also to analyse these and apply them to everyday situations demonstrating an authentic Christian world view. Our aim is that our graduates reflect the hope and purposeful character of those who follow Jesus.
Social and Emotional Development
Our students learn to interact with peers in a calm, caring and supportive environment.
Staff prioritise positive relationships with students and families.
Lighthouse Christian School has adopted 1 Timothy 4:12 as our school verse.
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
This along with our values of Respect for God, Respect for Others and Respect for Self, underpin student social and emotional development in each phase of school life.
Lighthouse prioritises the building and maintaining of positive and caring relationships between staff, students and parents ensuring a calm, caring and supportive environment conducive to teaching and learning.
Lighthouse teachers and staff embrace practices to ensure learning, social and emotional needs of individual students, including high achievers, are monitored closely and classroom routines meet levels of readiness and need. Preventative and responsive programs are provided for students where barriers to learning and development emerge.
Physical Development
Our students are physically active through their involvement in Health and Physical Education
classes and inter-school sporting competitions.
Physical activity is vital for child’s development and lays the foundation for healthy and active living and learning.
Lighthouse offers a broad range of physically active learning experiences and organised sporting activities that foster
the development of healthy habits throughout childhood and adolescence.
Every student at Lighthouse is provided with weekly Physical Education lessons (optional subject in Years 11 and 12).
Students from Year 5 and over are encouraged to be part of the school teams which play in
Rockhampton District School soccer, netball, basketball, hockey and futsal.
Inter-house carnivals foster fun and double as a selection trial for pathways to District, Regional and State Track and Field and Cross Country events.
